Tampa Bay Region to Host RNC 2012

ARRA News Service - The Republican National Committee’s members unanimously voted today to ratify the recommendation of the Tampa Bay Region to host the 2012 Republican National Convention. The vote took place at the RNC’s Summer Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri.

“We are excited to be holding our 2012 Convention in Tampa Bay. The Site Selection Committee worked incredibly hard to find and present the best city to our Members, and I am very pleased with the decision made today to ratify this selection,” said RNC Chairman Michael Steele. “As we begin our planning efforts, we have been beyond impressed by the community’s hospitality and warm welcome, and I am confident that this will be a true team effort as we move towards 2012.”

“From the start of this process Chairman Steele and the Site Selection Committee have focused on what would be the best business deal for the RNC, the Convention, and the city. Tampa has easily met all of these challenges and more, and we are thrilled to bring the Republican Convention to Florida,” said Holly Hughes, Site Selection Chairman.

The 2012 Republican National Convention will be held the week of August 27th. In downtown Tampa, the St Pete Times Forum will serve as the Convention venue, and the Tampa Convention Center being used for the Media Workspace. It is expected that the convention will bring 45,000 people to the region in the 5 day period. It is also projected that the region will see over 150 million dollars in revenue during the convention week.
